REFLECTION 8: FIVE THINNGS THAT I WILL TAKE NOTE WHEN IM IN TEACHING WORLD

REFLECTIO 8

Hi guys. This is week 12 ready. I am so stressed because the exam is near and this is my last reflection to my pedagogy course. Through this course I  have learned many things.

The last reflection question is the five things that I will take note when I am in teaching world are:

  • I will be prepared and organized before attend the class. This means I plan my lesson with clear structure and use an effective power point that contains only main points which use as a  guideline.

  • I will avoid reading the slides and notes that makes the students sleepy and boring. Make the class more interesting with carried out games or songs that related to the topic such as hangman, puzzle, bingo and etc. From these, the students love the subject.

  • As a  teachers I  need to have moral  values to be an effective teacher. So here, the passion, kind, love and helpful comes in. As a teacher I  help the students who are poor in studies by giving more exercise to enhance their skills.

  • Class management plays a vital role in a teacher's life.  As a teacher we have to understand the students' personal and psychological needs and create an affirmation classroom climate to avoid problems.

  • As a teacher I will give to avoid misunderstanding and also clearly understand the point rather by giving long notes. When I give long notes there are nobody read the notes, so here I decide to identify the main point by highlighting. I also keep in touch with the parents to update about the lessons or give information. This could lead to have a good communication between me and parents to  create trust on teachers.

Thank You.

REFLECTION 7 - THE BEST MOCK TEACHING

REFLECTION 7
CHOOSE ONE MOCK TEACHING WHICH YOU FEEL IS THE BEST. JUSTIFY  WHY THE CHOICES.

In my last reflection I was too nervous rite but I did well in my mock teaching mainly due to my confident. So, I think that you all be yourself and confident and don't put yourself in underground. All my friends give their best in their mock teaching. Even though it is new and first for us. We also need to overcome some mistakes that my lecturer Dr.Ng has identified to be an effective teacher.

In my point of view, I think Fatin was the best presenter for the mock teaching. The reason why I choose her because of her first impression is well worked. Why I tell this because she starts up her mock teaching by showing a picture that related to the topic. The topic that she taught was conjunction. The picture really attracts all of us.

Then, she have given the briefing about the terms such as but, so, because, and, or. She have not give a longer explanation to the terms but she have given short and sweet explanation with examples of pictures. It's really great, because we can picture the terms. and then she have carried out an activity by using a dice that made by paper which all the sides of dice contain the five terms and one side stated that lucky.

We are so excited....She randomly pick people to roll the dice. From the words the students need to make sentence. It's really interesting and we don't have the time to talk to my friends and nobody in our class is lucky. Ha Ha Ha...She also has a very good flow of teaching process. She can interact with the students easily and makes them become active in the classroom. We all engaged with her class.  I also love her voice projection and the way she conducts the class without letting us to feel boring.

She also carried out a class activity by distribute the hangouts and gave 3 minutes to finished it. After 3 minutes, she have discussed  the answer in class. Besides that, she also use the best teaching pedagogies methods in right way which is direct instruction, collaborative learning and etc.

So I believe that Fatin would be a  great teacher in future because now I can look through her confident level, the methods and trust that she will continue all these teaching methods in her future. That why I choose Fatin as the best teacher for mock teaching. She has done great job and make the class more fun. Good luck Fatin.

Thank You.

RELECTION 6
NARRATE YOUR EXPERIENCES WHEN PREPARING MOCK TEACHING.....

Hello guys. I am back with my new memorable moments that I had. Yeah, I am talking about my mock teaching.

Command guys, let me tell about what I do feel when I preparing for my mock teaching. Truly what I feel  was so nervous. Because another one week more for my mock teaching, I feel so frustrated because I didn't choose my topic yet. So I would like to choose the topic percentage because the topic was short and sweet.

Suddenly, Saktis call me and ask ' what topic are you taking for your mock teaching' ? I answered to her that I am taking percentage. She said that Siva I am taking percentage to my mock teaching. So I decide to change my topic to sets because before percentage I think to take sets. The topic more to shaded and contribution. I taught nowadays people are more interested in contribution rather than having a one way communication studies.

Once I got confirm with my topic. I consulted with my aunty on my topic and how should I approach the lesson to my students. As a teacher my aunty give some tips to conduct a class.  I like having a guide to follow, but I need to have class interaction. I always hated  classes where a teacher is just reading the slides or books. Why I telling these because I experienced in my school life. So I decided to  create very minimal power point. I want to give the point is truly just guide and really place for them to keep organized notes on the topic being discussed.

Besides, my slides I also prepared some group activities that help the students' understanding. I also prepare some homework which is hangouts and then also I do my lesson plan. In my lesson plan I got explained in detail that I am going to have a cross word puzzle to brainstorming section that related to the topic that I want to teach which is sets and then I give briefing about the chapter , group activities and I also give a survey form and hangouts. From the survey form I could evaluate how many of them are clear with my explanation.

This is what I planned for my mock teaching. I hope that next week I will give my best because now I am clear with the topic and steps and prays to the god. I can do it.....

Thank You.

REFLECTION5-8 RULES EFFECTIVE USE OF POWER POINT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING

REFLECTION 5
8 RULES EFFECTIVE USE OF POWER POINT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING

Hi guys....I am back.

Without wasting  time today I straight  jumped into the topic. Nowadays everybody love to use power point in teaching and learning process. So today' s topic could help you all more to your future.  There are few rules that all the people should gain for doing  an effective power point.

1. LIMIT CONTENT
This means the teachers should limit the content,  without giving much details in one slide. Giving too much detail, however may be counterproductive. Each slide should contain only one key point and think of the slides as a talking outline that help students follow along, take good note, think about what being taught and participate. Teachers also need be concise, use notes pages, and make it interactive.

2. FACILATE THE USE OF MULTIMEDIA
Power point can facilitate the use of multimedia, such as Internet, Video clips, and sound files. This could make the class more interesting, bring interest and enjoyable. It also a helpful tool for outlining to teachers.

3. INCLUDE LEARNING OBJECTIVE
This means in power point must include learning objective on topic of the lesson. Learning objective is a statement of what the students will be learned from the end of the lesson. This is very important for teacher and students in order to recognize what has being taught and learned in every end of the lesson.

4. USE SUITABLE FONT AND COLOURS
Teachers should consider the effect of color on the atmosphere in the classroom when using power point. Choose suitable background colors and fonts. As a certain colors are known to suggest certain moods, a teacher should consciously choose color. Do not use light color for fonts when the background is very bright. White and black background color is commonly used in PowerPoint presentation slide.

5. ADD MORE IMAGES
Nowadays people are more to visual learners. For example, mathematic is more to calculation subject, to attract the interest of students teacher can include some pictures to make the class interesting. This could help the students by having clear understanding by referring to the picture.

6. USE BULLETS POINTS AND HIGHLIGHT THE MAIN POINTS
To avoid long sentences the teachers can use bullets to identify the main by highlight or bold the particular word.  Short sentence better than giving a long sentence. Long sentence means students use all their time to focused on note taking and the lack of note talking caused the students to process less in class.

7. USE ANIMATION  IN SLIDES
By giving the same slides the students feel so boring, to avoid that teachers can include some animation to attract students. And keep in mind that don't use so many animation in one  power point presentation because it looks so messy. Just give one or two slide to avoid messiness and use the speed animation to avoid waste time.

8. PROVIDE WORKSHEET OR ACTIVITY IN SLIDES
To evaluate the students understanding teachers can give a short activity in the middle and end of the subject to evaluate the understanding of the subject matter. This will more easier rather giving  hangouts to the students.

Thank You.

REFLECTION4- WHAT I DISCOVER?

REFLECTION 4
WHAT I DISCOVER?

Hi everyone.
Today I would like to share what was discover by Dr.Ng in week 7. What she discover in class was about an effective use of power point in teaching and learning. There are some Do's and Don'ts when preparing a power point slides.

Lets look.....

DO’S
DON’TS
TEXT
v  Keep slides concise
v  Font size should range between 18 to 48 (according to importance)
v  Use fonts that are easy to read, such as Arial, Times Roman New Roman, etc.
v  Use uppercase letters for the first letter
v   Use statements, not sentences
v  Use keywords to help the students focus on the message
Text
v  Don't include too many details and data (no more than 7 words to a line and 7 lines to a slide)
v  Don't all  the points in one slide
v  Don't use flashy or curvy fonts
v  Don't use all uppercase letters (they are difficult to read )
Color
v  Limit the use of color to 2 to 4 colors/shades
v  Use colors that will stand out and will be easy on the eyes( White, Black)
v  Remember, the colors projected from a data projector will look different than the colors on the computer screen
Color
v  Don't have multiple color schemes
v  Don't use dark colors on a dark background (red, blue, and black should not be used together as text and background)

Images and Shapes
v  Include images that make the issue by  presenting more true to life, so students  will understand and identify with it
v  Only include 1 to 2 images per slide
v  Use shapes to illustrate complex topics
Images and Shapes
v  Don't use too many graphics (can be distracting)
v  Don't use low-quality images

Transitions
v  Use transitions to help the presentation make more of an impact by varying the way one slide replaces another
v  Keep transitions to a minimum
v   Use the same transition or a variation of the transition
Transitions
v  Avoid flashy transitions (too much movement will distract the students)
v  Avoid using random slide transitions

Thank You.....

REFLECTION 3- DESIGNING LESSON PLAN

REFLECTION 3
DESCRIBE FOUR POSSIBLE MISTAKES A TEACHER MIGHT MAKE WHEN DESIGNING A LESSON PLAN?

Hi friends. How are you all? Definitely, you all will be great and today I would like to share my experiences with to you friends about the lesson plan. I know that everybody thinking that what is lesson plan? Command friends let me give a briefing about what is lesson plan?
Lesson planning is at the soul of being an effective teacher. It is a creative process that allows teachers to create an understanding of second language acquirement and language teaching pedagogy with the knowledge of the learners, the curriculum, and the teaching context. It is a time when picture the learning that occur and analyze how all the portions of the learning experience should fit together to make that vision a classroom reality.
Lesson planning produces more unified lessons. It gives teachers the opportunity to think intentionally about their choice of lesson objectives, the types of activities that will meet these objectives, the sequence of those activities, the materials needed, how long each activity might take, and how students should be grouped.
The success of professional teachers doesn't "just happen." The path to success for teachers needs commitment and practice, especially of those skills involved in planning lessons and learning activities, and in managing classroom behavior. Planning lessons is a major skill that all teachers need to develop and improve, although carrying out of this skill in actual teaching can, and regularly does, take some time.
Besides that, teachers also frequently make mistakes in preparing their lesson plan. Here are the some examples of mistakes that a teacher might make when designing a lesson plan:

1. THE OBJECTIVE
The objective of the lesson does not indicate what the teacher will really do that can be observed. Keep in mind, an objective is a depiction of what an teacher does that structures the reason for making a deduction about learning. Poorly written objectives lead to defective inferences.
2. THE LESSON ASSESSMENT
The lesson evaluation is apart from the conduct demonstrated in the objective. An evaluation in a lesson plan is just a picture of how the teacher will figure out if the target has been refined. It must be founded on a similar conduct that is consolidated in the objective.
3. THE MATERIALS
The materials indicated in the lesson are unessential to the real portrayed learning exercises. This implies keep the poor of materials in accordance with what the teacher really plan to do. Teachers have to avoid materials is not giving  an excellence to students.
4. THE INSTRUCTION
The instruction in which the teacher will engage with is not effective for students learning. Proficiency is a measure that implies accomplishing increasingly a similar amount of effort, or a similar amount with less effort. With such a great amount to be educated, it must be clear that the instructional productivity is leading.
A lesson plan that contains one or more of these mistakes needs reconsidering and change.  Below is a rationale and guide to help the teachers to develop effective lesson plans and avoid the four common mistakes that frequently made by teachers.
Thank You.

REFLECTION 2- TEACHING PEDAGOGIES

Hello friends. In my last post, I have shared about the schools of thoughts and today I'm going to share about my reflection 2 which teaching strategies that  I would apply for Form 4 students in Mathematic. There are  few strategies that can be practice or apply  to teach mathematics but I pick three strategies that mainly used in mathematics which are direct instruction, reinforcement and collaborative learning.

Yeah,  its really going to be helpful for teach form4 students.
DIRECT INSTRUCTION

Firstly, I would apply the direct instruction to the form 4 students as its straight forward. This method would be a little easy for the students as it is structure is a way where the information is directly conveyed to the students. Direct instruction also help the form4 students to understand better as it is taught step by step until the students are clear with the information being conveyed. Its also has specific concepts and skills. The specificity of the objectives or learning target makes it easier for the students. This method easy for teacher to prepare for assessment tests of high validity and high reliability. Students also do not suffer much confusion in determining which part is important and which part is not. As a teacher I ensure the students are already passes the prerequisite knowledge.

REINFORCEMENT

I also use reinforcement method in class for form4 as it focusses more on behavior. Reinforcement occurs as us the teachers manage the environmental events that the form4 students' desired and their ways of behaving go to increase  their strength and future. As a teacher we can use the positive technique in our student to bring out the responsibility and discipline class. Positive reinforcement is a good way of bringing out the form4 students'  sense of decorum in the classroom. The results may not be reflected so fast it definitely take sometime.

COLLABRATIVE LEARNING

I will also choose the collaborative learning to approach the form4 students. This collaborative learning involves groups of students where they work together to solve their task. As a teacher I believe when students' share their mind to  get better idea of solving their task. When the students' get in to group they also can develop their level of thinking, oral communication, self management and at the same time they can also develop leadership skills. This learning skills also can help the form4 student who will soon leave their school life promote in the faculty interaction. Students can exposure if this learning is use and it would increase their understanding.

From these, I can conclude that all these teaching strategies are very important in teaching and learning process to build a successful person.

Thank you and I will see u guys in my next reflection with my new knowledge that I gained from pedagogy class....

REFLECTION-SCHOOL OF THOUGHT

Reflection 1 ..

Hi guys.....

Today I would like to share about the experience that I gain from my pedagogy in education course. Its really interesting. Before I jump into the reflection question 1, I would like to give a briefing  about school of thoughts. Basically there are three school of thoughts which is behavior, cognitive and humanistic. So now u all guys can identify what I going to share to u guys.

Yeah..
As a mathematic teacher I would choose behavior as my pedagogical school of thoughts. This is because its mainly refers to psychology that measures, trains and changes an individual behavior and response to certain stimuli. Through this the students will observe and imitates the teacher's behavior and instruction. For Mathematic every individual have to learn calculation steps that follows in order to get correct and students could not make their own steps or sequence that gives wrong answer. These could  sometimes lead  the students  to memorized the formulas, so here the behavior school of thoughts comes in. In this school of thoughts as a teacher I would  stress on environment as it is very important as having the right place to study will help construct and develop a good learner. Here too reinforcement plays a vital role that gives a way to the students to learn and remember things. It helps to shape and motivate the students behavior to create a successful individual. As a example that I can give from my understanding was bell, dog and food on classical conditioning that created by Ivan Pavlov.

In other hands, I also apply or practice cognitive school of thought. This is because it help the students in construction of thought process including remembering, problem solving and decision making and it also includes perception, attention, language, memory. All these make the students think aboard. When I said memory means there are actually two  which is short and long term memory that gives a better understanding to effective working memory. This school of thought also involves physical sense such as sight, hearing and etc that helps the students  to stay focus on what does I explaining.

From theses, I can conclude that as a mathematic teacher I would practice  both combination school of thoughts to fulfill my teaching and learning process to achieve my goal or objective.

Thank You...
